Hotel Overview
f you want to visit Coron Island or dive the many Japanese war ships sank in the region during the Second World War, Dive Link is an interesting alternative to the uncomfortable and noisy lodges in Manila or Cebu. This low-key Palawan Resort, opened by the Matta family in 1999, is only five minutes from Coron Village. It is on the little wooded island of Uson on the other side of the bay.
Dive Link Resort is a direct contrast to the placidity and splendor of the area. The structures are painted in a variety of bright colors, like those in a child's coloring book; a yellow jetty with red railings; blue corrugated iron roofing on the bungalows, and walls tinged with the same shade, accented by the red-framed windows. This play of colors is again rendered in the interiors of the bungalows - bamboo-braided walls with blue borders, red flooring, yellow curtains and bedcovers. The initial shock of this intensity of colors subsides as you realize that the place is far from displeasing.
Dive Link Palawan Resort is nestled in a natural garden of coconut trees right at the foothills. The majestic view of Coron Bay open to most of the cottages is particularly enchanting at sunset. Bungalows, well spaced from each other, are grouped in two rows on a hill facing the ocean. These are very well maintained and furnished with simple bamboo furniture. Each bungalow has a balcony that offers an excellent view of the surroundings. The window shut only with screens.
The Bamboo Restaurant overlooks the sea. Here, the home-cooked dishes are set in a miniature multi-colored banca. Jacks (talakitok) come regularly in fish baskets from Coral Bay Resort, likewise owned by the Mattas.
Dive Link Resort in Palawan offers an extensive banca tour of Coron and its lagoons, complete with snorkeling atop a shipwreck and lunch served buffet-style.
