Puerto Princesa, Palawan Philippines

Puerto Princesa is a necessary stop-over to the south or north of Palawan. All things considered, it is a pleasant and restful city; clean and adorned with flowers. If you have a few hours to spend , go and see its small museum in the old City Hall Building where you will experience a good overall view of Palawan culture. You will also find an interesting collection of pottery found in sunken Chinese junks discovered in the region.

A stay in Puerto Princesa is never complete without a visit to Honda Bay Palawan, only 30 minutes away by boat. It is a beautiful natural site, with numerous coral reefs framed by distant mountains.

To visit Honda Bay Palawan, you can take a banca from the jetty port at St. Lourdes, in the municipality of Tagburos, 10 kilometers away. The different islets are accessible in 15 to 45 minutes. The best known is Arreceffi Island Palawan. The islets of Honda Bay Palawan have a superb, long white beaches surrounded by crystal clear sea. These are also have lush tropical vegetation extending into vast mangrove forest that at times are double the size of the islands. The mangroves are teeming with birdlife of many migratory species.

PANDAN ISLAND  Pandan Island is named after the Pandan trees that line the beach with there heavy, yellow fruits. If it is not too hot, go to the other end of this Palawan beach, on the other side of Palawan island which is wilder. Its waters are bordered with mangroves.

SNAKE ISLAND  Snake Island is named after the form of its long beach of white sand. It is sad to see the dying coral reef here. You can listen to the songs of the birds from the neighbouring mangrove swamps.
